Sony announces A7 and A7R: first full-frame mirrorless cameras

This is the moment waited by everyone, a full frame mirrorless! A full frame mirrorless interchangeable lens! Sony has announced the A7 and A7R - the world's first consumer-oriented full-frame mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. Externally, the two bodies are nearly identical and feature a pentaprism-like EVF housing, generous handgrip and plenty of manual controls. The differences are internal - sporting a 36 megapixel sensor, the A7R has no optical low-pass filter and is limited to contrast-detect autofocus, while the less expensive A7 has a 24 megapixel sensor with a low-pass filter and on-chip phase detection.

Both bodies are designed around the Sony NEX E-mount, though new 'FE' lenses are needed to take advantage of the larger sensor. They also feature a new BIONZ X processor, XGA OLED 'Tru-finder', 3-inch LCD, Wi-Fi connectivity with NFC, and 60p video recording. Existing lenses for Sony's NEX range of APS-C mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras will mount and work as expected, though the scene will be cropped (though Sony gives you the option not to do so if you can live with some inevitable vignetting). Sony Alpha lenses can also be mounted via either the LA-EA3 or LA-EA4, the latter of which includes SLT autofocus technology. See our first impressions report for more.

  • Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with HTC Sense 5.5
  • 217g

HTC One Max comes with a fingerprint sensor on its back. You can easily unlock the device by just swiping your finger on the small square sensor below the camera or enabled quick app launch, which means that you can make the One Max automatically start an app of your choice depending on the finger you use for unlocking it. There is no Beats Audio support but the stereo BoomSound speakers are on board, bigger and louder than ever.

HTC One Max is going to hit the European and Asian markets by the end of this week. The exact pricing is yet to be revealed, though.

Personally, the spec is abit disappointing. Almost similar with HTC One except bigger, more battery and come with microSD slot. Doesn't seem worth to upgrade if you're current HTC One owner.

Olympus Officially Announces OM-D E-M1 and M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm F2.8 'Pro' zoom

Finally! After few months of rumors and a year of hope, Olympus officially announces OM-D E-M1. The true flagship for the company micro four third. Why I said a year of hope? Because rather than calling it the follow-up to the E-M5, Olympus says that the E-M1 is actually the 'successor' to the E-5, a Four Thirds DSLR introduced back in 2010. Yes the new has on-chip phase detection, which promises to focus legacy Four Thirds lenses (using the optional MMF-3 adapter) at much faster speeds than previous Olympus m4/3 cameras. I personally tested it with my Olympus 14-54mm f2.8-3.5 II from Robin Wong and indeed, it focuses quick! It is comparable with DSLR speed even it isnot as fast as native micro four third lens.

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Key Specification :

  • 16.3 megapixels
  • Four Thirds (17.3 x 13 mm) CMOS Sensor
  • TruePIC VII imaging processor
  • ISO 100-25600 in 1/3EV or 1EV increments
  • '5-axis' IS
  • 81 Number of focus points
  • 3″ Tilting 1,037,000 dot LCD
  • Electronic Viewfinder with 2,360,000 resolution
  • 1920 x 1080 (30 fps), 1280 x 720 (30 fps), 640 x 480 (30 fps)
  • Built-in wireless
  • Dust, splash, freeze resistant
  • BLN-1 lithium-ion
  • 130 x 94 x 63 mm
  • 497 grams
  • $1399.99 Body only

The Olympus OM-D E-M1 will be available in October 2013 and available in Black

Olympus also unveiled a high-end standard zoom to match the E-M1, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm 1:2.8 PRO. It offers a 24-80mm equivalent range, is dust-, splash- and freeze-proof, and uses a manual focus clutch design similar to the 12mm F2 and 17mm F1.8 primes.

Olympus has also announced the development of a matching M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm F2.8 PRO telezoom, which is scheduled to be released by the end of 2014.

Nothing surprising but the camera is worth mentioning. It using 1/2.3" EXMOR RS sensor size with Sony own imaging processor known as BIONZ. The G lens is 27mm wide with F2. Alcatel One Touch Idol X officially launches in Malaysia

While many of you might had forgotten, Alcatel is back to business since last few years. They adapted into android OS and as been releasing a lot budget smartphones. However, today Alcatel officially launches their high end model, One Touch Idol X.

Alcatel One Touch Idol X Key Specification :

  • 5" IPS display with 1920 X 1080 resolution
  • 1.5 GHz Quad Core MediaTek's MT6589 chipset Cortex A-7 processor
  • PowerVR SGX544
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB internal memory
  • 13MP back camera with 1080p video recording
  • 2MP front camera with 1080p video recording
  • 2000mAh battery
  • Dual SIM
  • 140.4 x 67.5 x 6.9 mom
  • 120 grams
  • Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
  • Colors : Slate and Red
  • Price : RM1,099

Honestly, I like the Idol X design. While it doesn't look too flashy but still outstanding with the 6.9mm thickness and also the zero bezel (2.4mm edge to edge). The display obviously is great thanks to the IPS technology and also 1080p resolution.

Alcatel claim that they built and used their own UI in this phone, known as OneTouch UI. One first glance, OneTouch UI resemble a lot MIUI, Huawei Emotion UI and also iOS7 in terms of simplicity, neat and squarish icon. It is worth to mentioned too that the UI doesn't have apps drawer that vanilla android should have.

There are two flaps on left and right for SIM slot. I am not sure whether both SIM can work on 3G simultaneously or only one on 3G while another on EDGE only.

Overall, Alcatel One Touch Idol X definitely a worth buying smart phones for user who looking for budget, but high performances by whooping the price tag as low as RM1,099. Of course here the good news for you all. Alcatel will be partner with Lazada and starting today the One Touch Idol X will be available at the online store for RM999. Th promo will be available 2 weeks from now before it hit the retail store with the original price.
